ISLAMABAD – According to a news report, the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) directed the Capital Development Authority on Friday to hire a Public Information Officer (PIO). The CDA has also been directed to disclose the PIO’s credentials and contact details in their website, as well as to submit a compliance report topic within ten business days.
The nomination of a Public Information Officer is compulsory under Section 9 of the ‘Right to Information Act’, which refers to the commissioning of a qualified civil servant to act as an information officer within the public sector and other non-governmental bodies.
This decision was announced by Information Commissioner Zahid Abdullah, who stated that federal bodies were not ‘giving primacy to proactive disclosure of information through their websites and that proactive disclosure of information is not given the serious consideration it deserves.
