LAHORE – As reported by various news outlets, the Punjab government recently advised the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to immediately relinquish the private housing society records of Kasur, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura  to their respective defunct tehsil municipal administrations (TMAs) or municipal committees.

This movement follows the recent authorization to amend the Lahore Development Authority Act 1975 , limiting their jurisdiction to just the metropolitan areas of the provincial capital. Reportedly, the jurisdiction of the civic body was expanded to include other districts so as to regulate and oversee the increase in illegal constructions; however, they  were unable to do so due to multiple administrative, legal and technical setbacks and protocols.
